Old School Fundraising

Old School Fundraising

This week I was on fire with some “old school fundraising” and it felt GREAT.

Have you heard people refer to “old school” in a derogatory way?  Actually “old school” means adhering to traditional policies or practices and I am proud to be “old school.”

A pandemic locked us up and we were forced to create new ways to do our meaningful work in the non-profit sector. I guess we were forced to learn “new school” ways to connect using social media, ZOOM, Go To Meeting, etc.

I like adhering to traditional practices in fundraising---do you know why?  THEY WORK!

A little voice in my head says don’t stray too far from what is proven.

This week I participated in ten small group informational meetings in donors living rooms. I shared information about a capital campaign and potential donors were able to ask questions. I even hugged a few and shook some hands.

For me---this was paradise and I was back to a normal that I will happily claim as perfect.

What I learned from gathering together, face-to-face:

  1. People are starved to be together in community.

  2. There is still a desire from people to hear about a need and a desire to engage in philanthropy.

  3. For the most part, people still care about each other, our communities and want to use their financial resources to make a difference.

  4. I think we are ready to get back to life (all of the participants and myself have been vaccinated twice, received one vaccine booster and for extra measure a flu shot---with an added mask when required)

We were ready to gather and make a difference as a group.

What are you doing that is “old school” fundraising?

Do you still have the desire and confidence to get out and do your work---in the field? Are you struggling to get back in the game and do your work? Are you or others holding you back from making a difference in your chosen field of work?

If you or someone you know wants to talk with me about mentoring or coaching it will be my pleasure to meet you via zoom and guide you on your professional or personal journey.

Join me for a free session and learn how in six weeks you can be re-excited about giving and sharing to benefit others.
