Happiness is a Daily Practice
I have heard people say that they think their “happy” will return once the vaccine is available to all (I must admit that when I got the second shot, I was sure that I heard the “Hallelujah Chorus” ).
Some people share that they will be happy once spring arrives, the flowers bloom, the trees bud, and they can enjoy longer and warmer days.
Others state that Easter and Passover represent hopeful and happy times ahead for their family and faith communities.
The good news is, yes, all those things will stir up thoughts that make you feel happy.
But, if you want to be happy more than temporarily, it is good to incorporate thought work on happiness as a daily practice.
Below are some suggestions for how to make happiness a daily practice.
Learn to observe your thoughts and how they correlate to your feelings.
Slowly refrain from focusing on the negative and start to notice the positive (you may need to look hard at times to find the positive).
Watch how often you complain about one thing—stop, and take one action to find a solution for the complaint.
Live your life according to your plan rather than what others want you to be.
Practice acts of kindness
Leave pessimistic people behind and start associating with optimistic people---it can be contagious
Pick one happiness practice this week to incorporate into your daily routine and see what happens.
