Challenge Yourself to do Something Hard
When was the last time you challenged yourself to do something hard?
On Sunday, I challenged myself to walk both sides of the Sidney Lanier Bridge.
The bridge is Georgia’s tallest cable-styled suspension bridge and provides access to the Golden Isles (my favorite Jekyll Island).
The bridge is 7,780 feet long and 486 feet tall.
I love bridge-walking, but this one presents several challenges:
There isn’t a barrier between a walker and the automobiles, so the only time to walk is at sunrise when the traffic will be light.
The incline is TOUGH, so I have to pull out a line I learned in a Couch to 5K class—“Let the hill be your friend.”
The wind is fierce at the top.
I am working to lose a few pounds, and I am not a spring chicken, so walking the bridge is a CHALLENGE, and it is hard...
How can you challenge yourself this week?
Challenges can be anything and might include:
Having a difficult conversation with a loved one
Making a career decision and loving your decision (no second-guessing)
Running rather than walking
Learning a new computer program
Stop drinking for 30 days
Whatever challenge you choose to face, make a decision, get a plan and accomplish your goal.
Sometimes we get comfortable going through life doing the same thing because hard things often suck.
But, hard challenges often bring great rewards when you are finished.
Once you meet your challenge, you will beam with pride, knowing that you tackled something hard.
